Meet Marshall. This handsome boy was adopted as a young puppy from another rescue and has lived with a family for the past two years. His current household includes two parents and two kids, ages 4 and 7. The kids adore him, and he's been good with the family, but he is uneasy with strangers and the world outside his home. Marshall did not get a lot of outside exposure in the first year of his life, so he's playing catch up, and learning to understand all of the new sounds and smells, and to trust the world around him. He's been to formal training and does very well when he's in a different environment with different handlers. He's a dog who needs a leader to help him feel more confident and secure. Marshall's trainer, Brittany, has been his rescue advocate and is committed to Marshall's success. She knows him well and is donating two training sessions to help him transition to his new home. Marshall has stayed with Brittany for two weeks of training, and she shared this update: Marshall who we call "Big Fudge" is a sweet pup who loves pets and affection. He snuggles up with both myself and husband at the end of the day when I allow him sofa time. He did great with my pack and had a blast with my youngest pup, Boomer, especially. He loves working on obedience training, and gets so excited to do his reps and routine. He's great in the crate and has good house manners, and is a very smart boy who just needs to build his confidence. He can sit, heel, place, down, recall, stay, etc. He needs a committed owner who has some leadership skills, and will provide structure, someone who is confident and willing to work through his transition issues - fear of new environments and greeting strangers. Brittany plans to take Marshall back in for a week of training before he goes to his new home, and will support his transition. He's been living as an only dog but has neighborhood dog friends, and always does well at doggy daycare. We think Marshall would be great paired with another social, confident dog he can learn from, and he would really enjoy a pup buddy in his new home. He is a medium energy-level dog who would do best in an active home. His current owner does not feel confident walking him on leash, so most of his activity is relegated to back yard time by himself or with the kids. After Marshall's formal training, his family did not continue to work with him and reinforce the training. As a busy home with two young kids, they do not feel they have the time to work with him properly. Marshall deserves a family who can invest a little time to help him be his best doggie self. His trainer has seen him do the work successfully, and he only needs a short refresher training to get back on track. It's also possible that a home with another dog, or a dog-savvy family may see a different Marshall. Dogs adapt to their handlers and the energy of the home.
